Green Community Movement
Starting on Friday night, July 17th and working into Saturday, July 18th, a series of water feature builds took place to "green" an entire neighborhood in Sugar Grove, IL (a Chicago suburb). These homeowners were extremely excited about taking part in this event that made their subdivision into an environmentally-friendly neighborhood that will hopefully launch a green movement like no other.
Here is a listing of the projects that happened in this one neighborhood:
- 6 RainXchange™ Systems with fountainscapes
- 3 RainXchange™ Systems with permeable paver patios and a fountainscape
- 3 RainXchange™ Systems with Pondless® Waterfalls
- 3 Standard Build-A-Ponds
- 1 Intermediate/Advanced Build-A-Pond with a negative edge application
- Numerous rain gardens and rain barrel installations throughout
- A large aeration system was added to the community’s retention pond & native plantings were added to the banks of the pond.
- LED lighting installation and native plantings were incorporated into the residential landscape projects.
The Conservation Foundation (www.theconservationfoundation.org) was on hand to certify yards that qualify for its Conservation @ Home Program. Qualifying yards receive a sign identifying it as a wildlife haven and environmentally friendly yard.
Partners working with Aquascape to create the first-ever Extreme Green Community Makeover include Unilock of Aurora, IL; JFNew of Walkerton, Indiana; Aqua Control of Spring Valley, IL; Caterpillar of Peoria, IL; Toro Company of Bloomington, MN; and the Conservation Foundation of Naperville, IL.
Stay tuned for more information on what happens with this movement next!
