Leading the Change (You as a Leader)
A week ago on this forum I asked people to rank themselves as Leaders.
Three people replied
I'm sure there's many reasons why that occurred from the simple (didn't see it) to the sad (apathy) But I speculate the biggest reason few people engaged with my question was it's not an easy one to answer. Honestly, how do you rate yourself on such a subjective and arbitrary question? That's exactly why I'm going try to do just that now myself. After all, a good Leader embraces the hard things themselves hoping to inspire others to do the same. I want to be a good Leader always. Here's my attempt to do just that, and encourage you to answer this question for yourself.
On a scale of 1 to 10 as a Leader (with 10 being the best) I'd give myself a 10! (Self assuredness has never been a problem for me 😜) I've steeped up to the plate in situations others have shied away from and smashed grand slams with my words and actions. As a Leader I've also proven capable of delivering a 1. I've not necessarily shied away from stuff as much as I've struck out with the bases loaded and others relying on me. When that happens I feel like I just want to dig a hole and bury myself in it. For real!
As a Leader of my family, which is my first and foremost responsibility, I've certainly delivered some 10's but sadly some 1's as well. God put my wife in my life for a reason and blessed us both with two awesome and maddening as hell teenage boys! I think every engaged parent has their fair share of both good and bad Leadership examples!
As flawed human beings, naturally, we are all capable of making both good and bad Leadership decisions. Everything from the situation to simple ability or even just our current state of mind effects how we Lead not just others but also ourselves. Agreed?
The one trait I have that I believe helps me as a Leader though, more than any other, is my desire to Lead. I want to be a Leader! In that regard I'm committed to learning all I can on how to be the best Leader I can be.
I've also done a pretty good job of surrounding myself with strong Leaders and learning all I can from them. You become who you associate yourself with. I believe in the quote "Show me your friends, I will show you your future! I think that most certainly applies at work "Show me who you work with and for, I will show you your future"
Who do you work with and for?
On Wednesday August 24th we are hosting a pre Pondemonium Leadership Boot Camp. If you desire to be a better Leader you will want to be there. Everyone attending will get something that everyone who desires to be a better Leader would benefit from knowing. That is what their personal Leadership style is and what they could do to maximize their Leadership strengths while minimizing their weaknesses.
How valuable could having this kind of information be to you both personally and professionally?!
To your people?!
Where else have you ever done something like this and if you miss it when will an opportunity like this present itself to you again?!
Fair questions? Can you see my passion for this day and for helping you become a better Leader? Are you already signed up or are you already a 10 or close to in all you do?
You tell me. Your turn!
